Building customer segments and sending marketing emails or texts

Release Date:
May 12, 2026

Build a customer segment, then send a marketing email or text to that segment.

Before you start: Know what you want to send and to whom (e.g., "everyone who's ever ordered pork" or "anyone with an active subscription").

  1. Go to Customer Data Platform → Segments → + New Segment.
  2. Add filters: order history, subscription status, custom list (paste in emails from an event signup), date ranges.
  3. Save the segment. It updates automatically as customers move in and out.
  4. Go to Marketing → Campaigns → + New Campaign.
  5. Pick Email or Text.
  6. Select your audience using the segment you just built (or contact lists / filters directly).
  7. Compose: add images, buttons, recipes, lists. Use Farmhand's templates.
  8. Send or schedule.

Success: open the campaign — you can see send count, delivery rate, and replies (which land in your conversational inbox — see Tutorial 7).

⚠️ What to know

  • You can target anyone who has an order on a specific date at a specific location with audience filters — useful for "your pickup is canceled" or "we have extra eggs for Tuesday pickup."
  • Texts and emails both pull from the same segment — pick the channel based on the message, not the audience.
