What to bring her

Come with the thing you're actually stuck on.

Agritourism

Turning a farm into a destination

Whether your land, your location and your patience can support visitors. What it costs to get there, what has to be built first, and what breaks the day strangers start showing up.

Pick-your-own

The model she wrote the book on

Row layout, pricing, staffing a Saturday, waivers and liability — and how to keep fruit on the plant for paying pickers instead of getting picked out in the first 30 minutes.

Farm marketing

Filling a season without a market stall

Your email list, the sign on the road, and what to post in the two weeks before you open. Which channels actually filled her rows, and which ones eat a whole season and give nothing back.

Crop planning

Planning for profit, not just yield

The unglamorous math. Which crops actually made you money last season, which ones you keep growing out of habit, and what deserves more beds next spring.

Who you'll be talking to

Megan Neubauer

A regenerative farmer, author and champion of local food. After a career in scientific research, Megan and her father built Pure Land Farm from the ground up, drawing tens of thousands of visitors out of the grocery store and into the field to harvest their own fruits and vegetables.

Fifteen years of farming has never been just about growing food. It's about growing relationships between people and the natural world.

She shared Pure Land's story in her first book, Pick-Your-Own Farming: Free Yourself from Farmers Markets and Join the Agritourism Revolution — a practical guide to the business model that got them there. Still an avid farmers market shopper, she spends her off hours befriending fellow growers and cooking whatever is at the height of its season.

Her second book, Eat Like a Farmer: The Guide to Sourcing and Cooking Real Food, is forthcoming from Chelsea Green Publishing.
