Accept SNAP/EBT for your CSA and your shop

About one in eight households in the country buys groceries with SNAP benefits. Until now they couldn't buy from you through Farmhand — which shut a real slice of your community out of your CSA and left money on the table. Farmhand now handles EBT/SNAP end to end: setup, eligibility, signup, checkout, and refunds.
Getting started runs through the Farmhand support team, who connect your farm to our EBT processor. From there, you decide what qualifies.

Produce, dairy, and eggs qualify under SNAP; prepared foods and household goods generally don't. You flag items one at a time rather than having your whole catalog treated as eligible, so an EBT member is only ever charged from their benefits for things that genuinely count.

At CSA signup, EBT appears as a payment method alongside cards — but only when it's actually allowed. Federal rules require EBT to be charged at the point of sale, so Farmhand offers it only on a single-delivery option whose first delivery falls within seven days, at a farm with EBT turned on, for a share containing eligible items. You no longer need a separate EBT-only product and a second plan: one plan serves everyone, and your harvest report stays clean. There's also a dedicated EBT signup link that narrows every step to the choices that will work, so a SNAP shopper never hits a dead end at checkout.

When a total includes something SNAP won't cover — a service fee, a non-food add-on — the payment splits automatically. The member enters both methods, EBT pays the eligible portion, the card picks up the remainder, and they land on a confirmation page tracking the payment in real time.
Refunds are covered too, which the USDA requires of anyone accepting SNAP. A whole EBT invoice or a single line item can be refunded, split payments are divided back across the EBT balance and the card in proportion to what each originally paid, and the member automatically receives a compliant refund receipt.
Settlement and fee accounting run behind the scenes, so there's nothing for you to reconcile by hand. One thing to know: our processor allows one EBT card per account, so members keep a single card on file.
